TO OUR COMMUNITY:

Hello everyone! We are so thrilled that we could all pull together and present The Dreamers - truly a team effort all around.

We’ve been honoured to be part of your community for the last 23 years, teaching 250+ humans each week through The North Vancouver Recreation Commission. We are disappointed to announce that after all these years, the NVRC has canceled our contract moving forward as of January 2023. Both the I Can Dance Program and Pink Petal Ballet will no longer be held through NVRC. Despite our programs consistently remaining at 100% capacity with waitlists, and our ability to deliver invaluable experiences to our diverse community members at less cost than local dance schools, the NVRC has made this decision against our hopes and wishes. Pink Petal Ballet has grown within the walls of NVRC, and we are disappointed in the way that this is coming to an end.

While we have done our best to understand the thought and intention behind the decisions of the NVRC, we believe it is short-sighted. Families often look for programs for their small children through a community centre first and foremost. The community centre is a grass-roots entry level for recent immigrants, people experiencing financial challenges, and families wanting their child to experience something new. Typically, new families won’t immediately put their kids in formal dance schools right away because of the cost and commitment. The feedback we consistently hear is that when families find Pink Petal Ballet, they immediately feel part of a larger community where they feel seen and cared for. Our families often sign up for one term and end up staying for several years.

Pink Petal’s unique experience for students ages 2-8 has developed into something unsurpassable. The mindful, trauma-based approach to teaching kids of many diversities, including those with ASD, anxiety, and ADHD are just some of the things that Pink Petal is well-known and sought after for. This creates a need for trained and experienced staff, something that we value immensely.

With all that said, we continue to look forward to serving the North Vancouver community and assure you we aren’t going anywhere. We love you, we thank you, and we hope to see you this Fall for our final term at the North Vancouver Recreation Commision. We are excited to share all of the amazing things we are developing together, and hope that you’ll look for us wherever we end up in January 2023.

If you have questions about the NVRC decision, please direct them to Karen Pighin, Arts Coordinator at Karen.Pighin@nvrc.ca.

Thank you all,

alix
